How to use this site
How do I get the most from this site?
We hope you'll take a bit of time to look through the site, and that you'll find most of the functions fairly straightforward to use. Still, if you are a new user, you might appreciate a few tips - after all, WIMPS is a fairly unique site and there is a lot you can do with it!
Our first tip is register! Of course this isn't compulsory, but you'll find that you can use many more of the functions effectively if you are a registered user. For example, the political search at the bottom of each page - you can put in any Northern Ireland postcode and get a list of the locally elected representatives for that area, but you can't send a message until you are a registered user. Registration is really simple, and by registering, you can receive updates regularly and join in our on-line discussion through the forum. Just click here, and give us your information.
Great! So that's got you going, now you might want to try out our famous postcode search! By typing in your postcode in the box at the bottom of any page, you get a list of all your elected representatives at Local Council, Northern Ireland Assembly, Westminister and European Parliament levels - cool eh? Then so long as you are registered, you can send a message to these people. Remember - you don't need to send it to everyone on the list. If it is a local issue, your Councillors might be the best starting point. If it is a European issue, tell your MEPs. Also remember to include those who don't necessarily hold the same views as you - they still might want to help and it is good for them to be exposed to a range of views!
Alright, if you're getting confident, have a look at our 'Your Project' section. Here you can see a range of projects that groups are doing all over Northern Ireland (and in some cases beyond!). If you've got a project going, click the 'list your project' button and tell us all about it. You can even upload your own video, or a poster, or a letter you've used - you decide. You can also use this function to contact other groups!
