Do you think young people have a lot of things to do in the weekend evening? I mean, as an alternative to drinking?

They do-many choose not to participate in alternative events or activities.
From experience, many in school look forward to a binge at the weekend, while i wait impatiently for other forms of entertainment.

No there is nothing to do at the weekend.

We can go out to a club and not drink but the only real places to go are clubs and bars, I dont know of anything else to do, i sit in every weekend or maybe go out to dinner with friends but other than that there is nothing. There really should be more to do

If you are waiting for other forms of entertainment, surely that suggests that there is little to do?

I feel that there are very few options for young people in the evenings because many people still operate under the view that young people do not leave their houses in the evening. Its true that many young people do look forward to binge drinking at the weekend but perhaps that is due to the fact that they have little else to do, and if they were provided with an enjoyable alternative many would get out of this mindset.

there may be other forms of entertainment but there could be a huge improvement in the provision of activities that young people can take part in.

all the really is to do, is go to the cinema, or go to a club/bar for a drink.

there may be other thing to do like ice skating and paintballing etc. but these are all in obscure locations like dundonald and newcastle which arent easily accessible.

maybe if there was better public transport to these places there wouldnt be so much of a problem with underage binge drinking.

however at the same time, if the transport was improved there would be a huge influx to these facilities and they wouldnt be able to cope.

therefore all that can be said is that more needs to be developed for young people in northern ireland.

Ill second that. Young people drinking in NI is madness. Dont get me wrong i did it myself, but didnt cause any trouble, even at that it was a good thing to get into. You could even bring this down to parenting really, although their parents cant know where they are 24/7 doesnt mean they cant try. Ive seen so many young people saying to their mothers "Ok im away out here, im just going to my mates", and i know for a fact they arnt, because i ask them afterwards and they trust me. As much as i would wanna say to their mothers Hes been here, or she was there its not my place to say that, and the young ones should learn that what theyre doing is so wrong.

As it was said, about paintballing, ice skating etc, true they are outta the way, and yes there should be easier transport to and from these locations. Really there should be things like that locally, well not to far i suppose, i think it will get younger people of the streets and doing something worth while.

When i say streets, i mean the fact that they cant get into clubs on certain nights, even at that, i know LOADS of clubs that let under-age people in, but then i stop and think, why wouldnt they if they have id. Crazy times in NI these days.

There is nothing to do in Belfast at the weekend.

But I suppose even those people that are 18 so can legally drink just go out.

But that therefore does show that theres not enough variety;all we have that is free is the Continential Market. The only other appealing things to do such as plays etc you have to pay for.

I think Wimps should also start a campaign to make all gigs under 18 D

Yeah i know what you mean about censorship, but if the people wana go to see a band theyve obviously heard the music before so know what the content will be. I think thered need to be something about drinking but maybe something like armband thingys would sort that out.

as for the crazy 12 year olds going mental I think thats a unchangable problem P
