Shami Chakrabarti - Director of Liberty - Part Two

In the second part of our interview, Paddy asks Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty if she would support lowering the voting age to 16 years.  She says she would - many young people are tax payers, and there should be "No taxation without representation."  A great slogan - we should use that!  He also asks her about her advice to young people in terms of protecting their rights.  Her advice is that young people get informed - in particular that they learn about the 'Human Rights Act' and its importance - particularly given that the Conservative Party are threatening to repeal the act if they are elected.

She argues that whilst many adults are frightened of young people - it is vital that young people's rights are understood and protected.  It is important that people know how hard won our freedoms are, and if these freedoms are eroded, it is young people who will inherit the consequences.

Finally, Paddy presents Shami with a WIMPS Peace Channel T-Shirt - maybe she'll wear it next time she is on the news!
