Maze prison

Donovan Wylie has been shortlisted for the Deutsche Borse Photography Prize 2010. Donovan is a Belfast born photographer, who left school at 16 to pursue his photographic career.
The Deutsche Borse Photography Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in the world of photography, kinda like the nobel prize in science.


His nomination, Maze 2007/8 was first premiered at Belfast Exposed in March 2009. Donovan Wylie was the only photographer granted official and unlimited access to the Maze prison site during its demolition. Over a 2 year period, Wylie systematically photographed the interior of the prison, which remains synonymous with the Northern Ireland conflict.


The selection of Donovan Wylie for the Deutsche Borse Photography prize shortlist represents a major achievement for Northern Ireland, alonsgside signaling international recognition of the significance of visual arts and photography practice in this region.
