Links

Evaluator DudeThere are lots of useful links in the main links section of the WIMPS website, but we thought it might be useful to add in a few specific to the theme of this channel.  If you know of any good sites you think we should higlight, drop us a line - and maybe tell us why you think it is a good site.  Together we can build up this section to make it a fantastic resource for young people.  Meantime, have a look at some of these sites - they might help you come up with ideas and campaigns of your own.

Bush Radio

Bush Radio is Public Achievement's main partner organisation in South Africa.  Bush is a community radio station, largely run by young people that broadcasts to the Cape Flats - the townships around Cape Town.  They are much more than a radio station - they are a key educational tool both for listeners and for the young people involved in producing their programmes.  You can listen to Bush Radio online.

CAIN - Conflict Archive on the Internet

What to find out more about the 'troubles'?  This online resource covers all the events of the conflict over the more than 40 years from 1968 to the present.  It is a great resource for factual information about the events which have shaped Northern Ireland and our current politics.

Peace Jam

If you are interested in international peace issues, then this site is an absolute must!  Peace Jam brings together Nobel Peace Prize winners and young people from around the world to work on issues together.  The site is packed with useful information and ideas, links to campaigns and information about winners of the Nobel prize, including Northern Ireland's own Maíread Maguire and Betty Williams - winners of the 1976 prize.  Most of the groups are in the US, but some of their activities are international.

Popular Achievement

Popular Achievement is youth programme of the American Friends Service Committee (Quakers) in the Palestinian Westbank and the Gaza strip.  This is Public Achievement's partner organisation in the Middle East - and they work in Palestinian villages - teaming up volunteer coaches - mostly University students - with local teams of young people.  This site is a blog by American photographer Skip Schiel on their work.

Public Achievement USA

The Public Achievement name and model came originally from Minnesota in the USA.  The Northern Ireland organisation is completely independent and autonomous - but we still have links with PA in the USA.  This site tells you about their work and has a number of resources that you can download and use.

The Troubles

BBC resource about the Northern Ireland Troubles and also the history of Ireland up to partition in 1921 - great resource full of useful information.
