Project Details:
To date the young people from Springmartin have been involved in making a video about their peacewall and how it affects them. They have met with the other Peace Channel groups and had an activity day in the
Belfast Activity Centre which was lots of fun and challenging.
At the end of February the young people from the Peace Channel had a residential together in the East Coast Adventure Centre, which went very well and was hugely successful in terms of coming up with a direction for the Peace Channel.
The Springmartin Group are currently involved in setting up a steering group which consists of young people from all over the Peace Channel and they are looking at directions for young person led community relations work.
The group are looking at working with the young people from Corpus Christi on an arts project called "This Is Me" looking at issues specific to their area and exploring alternative ways for people to deal with difficult issues.
What have you learnt from doing your project?
From participating in this project I have leart about the reality of the Peace Walls effect on young peoples lives and how serious the problem remains. I have also learnt that young people wish to combat sectarianism and are not only passionate about doing so, they are willing to take risks and put in time and effort to improve relations between their communities.
